SHOCKING ABDUCTION OF A TEACHER IN GQEBERHA SPARKS OUTRAGE

GQEBERHA-The South African Democratic Teachers’ Union (SADTU) expressed deep concern and anger following the shocking abduction of a teacher at Happydale Special School in Algoa Park, Gqeberha.

The incident captured on video shows the teacher arriving at the school and being ambushed as she steps out of her vehicle.

The kidnappers fired warning shots before abducting her, leaving the Eastern Cape police still searching for her.

In a statement, SADTU condemned the violence, emphasizing the need for schools to be safe havens for learning.

They called on law enforcement to act swiftly and the Department of Basic Education to bolster security measures to protect against such attacks.

Portfolio Committee on Police Chairperson Ian Cameron described the abduction as extortion, highlighting that the victim is reportedly the wife of a prominent businessman.

He urged authorities to view such incidents as part of an organized threat rather than isolated events.

The community is urged to remain vigilant, and anyone with information is encouraged to come forward.

The safety of teachers, learners, and school staff must be a top priority in ensuring that schools remain centers of education and development, free from crime and violence.
