Mthatha Woman Sentenced to 15 Years for Double Murder in Fit of Rage

MTHATHA – In a shocking case, Noncedo Mqokro(39), was sentenced to 15 years in prison by the High Court of South Africa, Eastern Cape Division for the brutal murder of her boyfriend and aunt.

The tragic events unfolded on the 19th of May 2024, when Mqokro discovered her boyfriend in a compromising situation with her distant aunt.

Mqokro went to her boyfriend’s home in Khabakazi village and found the two together. Overcome with anger, she stabbed both victims multiple times with a dagger knife.

After the incident, Mqokro turned herself in to the police and pleaded guilty, citing her struggles with epilepsy, past abuse from her ex-husband and her boyfriend’s violence as reasons for her actions.

Barry Madolo, the Eastern Cape Director of Public Prosecutions stated, “The sentence should caution other people in abusive relationships to seek interventions within legal limits. Once they commit a crime, they will serve time.”

State Advocate Loyiso Methuso highlighted the impact of the murders, saying, “This loss leaves children without their guardians.” He also acknowledged Mqokro’s remorse, adding, “She needs professional help, especially since her youngest daughter blames her for her father’s death.”

Mqokro will serve her 15-year sentence concurrently for both murders, along with an additional 8 years for housebreaking, all to run at the same time.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of violence and the importance of seeking help in difficult situations.
