Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly prepared to include a second player, in addition to Ashley du Preez, plus a cash payment in an improved offer for Stellenbosch FC winger Langelihle Phili.
Amakhosi remain determined to sign the talented winger before the start of the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season as head coach Fernando Da Cruz continues reshaping his squad. Although neither club has officially confirmed negotiations, SABC Sport reports that talks are progressing, with Chiefs now strengthening their proposal in an effort to secure the deal.
Chiefs first attempted to sign Phili during the January transfer window, but Stellenbosch were unwilling to lose one of their key players in the middle of the season. The situation has since changed, with Phili now entering the final year of his contract. Stellenbosch are reportedly open to selling him rather than risk losing him on a free transfer next year.
Ashley du Preez is understood to have already agreed personal terms with Stellenbosch, but the move depends on Phili joining Chiefs. The identity of the second player Chiefs are prepared to offer has not yet been revealed.
It has emerged that the reason Chiefs have had to up their offer is because there has been another club who have entered the race for Phili. Manqoba Mngqithi’s new club Young Africans are said to be prepared to pay the full R16 million set by Stellies for the speedy attacking midfielder.
