Four Men in Court for Gruesome Murders and Rapes in Kariega

KARIEGA – Four men made their first appearance in the Kariega magistrates’ court on June 23, 2025, facing serious charges of murder and multiple rapes.

The accused are Akhululwe Phungulwa (28), Anele Ngalo (27), Zubenathi Dyakumeni (27) and Siphosethu Gomomo (21).

The shocking crimes took place on June 17-18, 2025, in Kwanobuhle Gqeberha, where two teenage victims, aged 17 and 19, were brutally murdered and raped.

Reports say the victims were socializing with the accused at a private home when the men allegedly forced their way in, interrupting a consensual encounter.

The four men are accused of raping both victims before taking their lives. Three of the accused have already provided confession statements and have chosen not to apply for bail.

The case has been postponed until July 30, 2025, for further investigation.

Luxolo Tyali, spokesperson for the Eastern Cape National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), said, “The NPA will ensure crucial evidence is collected for a strong case to secure convictions and deserving sentences.”

As the case moves forward, the community and families of the victims are seeking justice, and prosecutors are preparing for an intense legal battle.
