GQEBERHA-Moses Gqesha(50) was handed an effective life sentence in the Gqeberha High Court on Thursday for the 2010 rape of Gauteng businesswoman Andy Kawa.

Judge Phillip Zilwa sentenced Gqesha to eight life sentences, one for each count of rape which occurred over several hours at Kings Beach.

Although the sentences will run concurrently, the court’s decision underscores the severity of Gqesha’s crimes.

During the sentencing, Judge Zilwa noted that Gqesha showed no remorse for his actions. As a result, the judge saw no reason to deviate from the prescribed minimum sentence.

In his remarks, Judge Zilwa likened Gqesha to a predator who targeted women, viewing them as “fair prey.”

This sentencing brings closure to a traumatic chapter in the life of Andy Kawa and serves as a testament to the court’s commitment to holding perpetrators of gender-based violence accountable.
