Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma admits he was disappointed after being dropped for the Nedbank Cup final and being replaced by Brandon Petersen. Bvuma has been the first choice at Chiefs throughout the season and helped the side to reach their first-ever cup final since the CAF Champions League final in 2021. The Bafana Bafana international played all the Nedbank Cup games, including the 2-1 semi-final win over against Mamelodi Sundowns.
Chiefs’ technical team surprisingly dropped Bvuma to the bench for the final against Orlando Pirates with head coach Nasreddine Nabi later explaining that it was not a tactical change; they just felt that Bvuma was under a lot of pressure from the supporters after the last few games and decided to save him and start Petersen instead. Speaking to Thabiso Mosia
on Radio2000, Bvuma explained that he was disappointed by the decision as he wanted to play the final and having played all the games before the final but also emphasized that the team comes first.
“Of course, every player wants to play the finals and, in my situation, whereby I played every game in the competition, but at the end of the day decision was supposed to be made and turns out that it was a good decision,” he said.
“With me, the team comes first, whether I’m playing or not playing, if the team does well, then I am happy, so that was it.
“Of course, I was disappointed when I was told at the same time, I understood the reasoning, and also as I have mentioned, the team comes first.”
