Amakhosi are fresh from ending a decade long trophy drought by winning the Nedbank Cup in Durban and the weekend, beating rivals Orlando Pirates 2-1 at a packed Moses Mabhida Stadium.
Chiefs have had a few days now to soak it all up but must still win against Sekhukhune United this Saturday and Polokwane City on the final day of the 2024/25 season to make the top eight. Petersen has stressed the importance of the two games.
“A 100 percent and I think we have two cup finals left. You know, we want to finish this season on a high. We want to end in the top 8 so we have more trophies, more silverware to play for next season, so I mean we’ll celebrate tonight and then tomorrow it’s back to work for those two cup finals,” Peterson said.

Chiefs were impressive in the Nedbank Cup – eliminating Chippa United, Stellenbosch, Mamelodi Sundowns and Pirates to win the trophy.
Petersen couldn’t quite put his finger on why the league form was so poor.
“I think if something is set out for you to achieve it, if Jesus says yes no one can say no, and for me, I’m a firm believer in, if something is set out for you, you will achieve it. Every week we go out, we try and perform, and it doesn’t always go our way,” he added.
The shot stopper is then confident Chiefs will get a boost from their triumph over the weekend to save their season.
“I think the fact that the history that’s behind this, you know, and that change, I think that made it even more special for us. Making us want to really achieve it because this is the closest we’ve got this season to winning silverware.
“This was the last trophy up for grabs and I think that alone was the encouragement we needed to bring back the glory days.”
