Royal AM saga over, PSL to ask SAFA to promote three teams

The PSL Board of Governors (BoG) has resolved to approach the South African Football Association (SAFA) regarding the promotion of three ABC Motsepe League teams for next season.

This comes after the PSL BoG voted for the termination of Royal AM’s membership from the league two weeks ago.

According to SABC Sport, the PSL will ask SAFA to promote three ABC Motsepe League teams instead of two to fill the void left by Royal AM.

The PSL relegation/promotion format remains the same:

  • Motsepe Foundation Championship winners get automatic promotion to the Betway Premiership.
  • Teams that finish second and third will be involved in the playoffs alongside a Betway Premiership team that will finish 15th on the log.
  • The winner of the playoffs will campaign in the Betway Premiership next season.

The PSL is expected to make an official announcement on the expulsion of Royal AM and also publish an updated Betway Premiership log in the near future.
