he National Lotteries Commission(NLC) has sprung into action to provide relief to communities severely impacted by recent disasters in the Eastern Cape.
Areas worst hit include Mthatha, Mnquma, Mbhashe, Great Kei and Amahlathi local municipalities where lives were lost and essential services like water, electricity and healthcare were disrupted.
NLC Chairperson Professor Barney Pityana said, “Emergency interventions are conducted following a rapid needs assessment and are implemented in partnership with qualified not-for-profit organisations.”
The NLC has allocated R10 million to provide essential items like food parcels, clean water, school uniforms, sanitary pads and healthcare through partnerships with NGOs, including the Small Projects Foundation.
