Award-winning actor Warren Masemola moved mourners to tears with his unfiltered eulogy at the funeral of South African actor Presley Chweneyagae.
Masemola used the emotional moment to issue a heartfelt warning about the dangers of alcohol abuse in South African communities.
“Presley and I fought a lot,” he recalled. “We fought about love, we fought over time, we fought about professionalism, we fought over children and family, among other things.”
He recounted: “I remember leaving my house in Johannesburg and coming here to Pretoria to fetch Presley because he was being a nuisance.”
Masemola went on to reflect on the broader impact of substance abuse, highlighting how alcohol has severely set back many black families.
He also called out those he referred to as Presley’s “so-called friends”, criticising them for not encouraging him to go home to his children and his wife when they were out drinking together.
