A five-day meeting is being held in East London by the department to discuss safety issues and maintaining international standards in the aviation industry.
Delegates from 44 African countries are attending.
The Mthatha and King Phalo Airports have recently been experiencing landing difficulties due to air navigation issues, resulting in flight delays and cancellations.
The Department’s Director-General James Mlawu says these issues are receiving attention.
“Those are caused by our outdatedness in some of our landing procedure protocols which are defined and set by ICAO and if you have not updated them and you are not fully up to date, if there is a change in weather because it dictates what your protocols in landing in inclement weather are and with poor visibility. But I don’t foresee there will be difficulties.”
