One suspect will appear in the Gqeberha magistrate court on the 5th December, Thursday. Following an arrest that was made after a crime prevention operation within Walmer Township resulted in the recovery of two firearms with ammunition and stolen property, after they quickly responded on a robbery in progress information.
It’s alleged that on the 02 of December, Monday, at about 22h00, the Walmer SAPS were informed of a robbery in progress within the township. As they were approaching the area they heard gun shots being fired at a local tavern. As police responded, they witnessed several suspects attempting to flee from the tavern in different direction. As they were pursuing the suspects, the suspect started shooting and SAPS members retaliated and fatally wounded one suspect about 29 years of age and a second suspect got arrested.
The following were confiscated by the police om the scene, two firearms with ammunition, 9mm Beretta that was stolen during a murder in November 2024 in Walmer, and a 9mm ADP pistol with ammunition that was stolen in a house breaking during April 2024 in Lorraine. A white Mercedes-Benz which was hijacked during the night in Airport Valley was also confiscated. The arrested suspect, age 24years, was detained on charges of three attempted murder, hijacking and ammunition. The Ipid qas informed and an inquest was opened.
