The South African Weather Services(SAWS) has issued level 5 and 6 warnings for parts of the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal for Tuesday.

An Orange level 6 warning has been issued for disruptive snow in the Joe Gqabi District Municipality, Enoch Mgijima and Matatiele Local Municipalities of the Eastern Cape.

Additionally, SAWS has warned of disruptive rain leading to flooding in Amathole, OR Tambo and Buffalo City District Municipalities. A level 6 warning has also been issued for damaging winds and waves between the Kei River Mouth and Port Edward.

SABC meteorologist Mpho Rasimphi advises South Africans to exercise extreme caution on icy and wet roads.

“When the road is flooded, all we can do is to just go back. Let’s not try to cross that stream, especially in terms of the rivers as they are flowing,” Rasimphi said.

Residents are urged to practice caution, especially when driving and to avoid forcing their way through closed roads.
