Drugs estimated to be worth R1 billion have been seized at the Beitbridge Border Post.
The haul was discovered inside a truck travelling from Malawi to South Africa on Wednesday.
After an extensive eight-hour search, the truck was found to be loaded with 713 000 grams of methaqualone, a substance commonly used in the manufacturing of mandrax.Three people were arrested during the operation and have been detained at the Musina Police Station. They are expected to appear in court soon on charges related to drug trafficking and contravention of South African laws.
Investigations are currently underway to determine the intended destination for the consignment.
