Breidbach Senior Secondary School warmly welcomed a new principal on the 17th of January 2024. Dr Collin Sthembiso Hendricks, replacing the acting principal Ricky Alexander said it is an honour for him to join a school with such a rich history.
Hendricks who originates from the dusty roads of Perfferville in East London, said he started working at Shoprite as a packer, as he did not have funds to go and study. He said he later allowed me to be an HR intern at the Eastern Cape Provincial Office of the Premier in Bisho. “I received a bursary to further my studies to become a qualified teacher, so I enrolled in the University of Fort Hare in the East London Campus,” he said.
Hendricks has worked as an educator in Dale College, German Village Primary, Schornville Primary, John Bisseker Secondary, and after that as a principal in Alice Primary. “I also furthered my education and obtained a Doctorate from Divinity College Consortium,” said Hendricks
Lastly, he said “My vision for my commitment, dedication, and hard work is to restore the morale of the school and unite the school and the community”
The SGB chairperson Lorenzo Thompson said that the school was fortunate to have an acting principal and a deputy principal; the choice does not mean they were incapable. “The Unions were present, SGB members and as well the Department of Education when the choice was made” he continued by saying that Hendricks has a rich history with the school and the fact that he has been a principal before in other schools and that he is young vibrant so that could be what inspired the committee to score him more points. He concluded by saying that this might be what the school needed, new fresh blood.
