A total of 366 units of abalone were confiscated on the 27th of January 2024. A male suspect was arrested for contravention of the Marine Living Resource Act,19 of 1998 Regulation 36 sub-sect 1 after a high-speed chase.
This comes after K9 members received information about the transportation of abalone by a white VW Polo. It’s alleged that around 07:00 K9 members responded swiftly to information received and spotted the vehicle on the M4. In an attempt to stop the vehicle, the driver sped off on N2 towards Algoa Park, forcing the police vehicle off the road throwing out bags containing abalone and losing control driving into the barriers, police recovered another bag of abalone and confiscated it.
He will appear in Gqeberha Magistrate court on Monday the 29 of January 2024.
