The Department of Employment Labour Minister, Nomakhosazana Meth launched the Eastern Cape Leg of the Laboura Activation Programme (LAP) on the 28th of February, 2025.In Mthatha stadium.
Various departments were there in support of the launch to render services, the Department of Human Settlement, The Department of Education, the Department of Public Works and infrastructure, SARS, and the Eastern Cape’s acting Premier Siphokazi Mani.
Deputy minister Judith Nemadzinga-Tshabalala handed over R906 million to Labour Activation Programme partners to stimulate job creation in the Eastern Cape, targeting 23000 unemployed beneficiaries.
“The administration will sit down with the appointed partners to agree on the minimum requirements of who must be employed, also there are administrative issues to be followed, hence we could not employ on site today” said Minister Meth. Adding that this time, they will be strict and will want statistics on the number of jobs and reports on how the program is working.
