KOMANI-The Chief Whip of Emalahleni Local Municipality under the Chris Hani District Xoliseka Lali, was fatally shot at his residence in the South East Village estate in Komani this morning.
Members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) responded to the incident after concerns were raised by Lali’s wife.
According to reports, Lali’s wife attempted to contact her husband in the early hours of the morning without success. She then asked her brother-in-law to check on him at the apartment.
Upon arrival, the brother found the security gate and front door open. Inside the passage, a live round of ammunition was discovered. In the bedroom, Lali was found lying on the bed with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body and back.
The motive for the murder is currently unknown. Police are actively processing the crime scene and investigating the circumstances surrounding Lali’s death.
