With some senior African National Congress (ANC) leaders said to be secretly working for the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party, the ANC has stated that those wishing to leave the organisation are welcome to do so.
The ANC’s leadership in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) is currently reporting to the National Working Committee (NWC) regarding the province’s poor electoral performance in the 29 May polls.
Several within the party have attributed the ANC’s electoral decline in KZN to various issues, including members allegedly working with the MK Party.
Speaking on the sidelines of the NWC meeting in Boksburg, ANC spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri addressed the allegations, stating:
“We have been made to believe that we have people who are said to be working for the MK Party. We are not in the business of second-guessing our own leaders and members. Those who no longer find pleasure in the ANC are free to join whichever party they choose. We fought for this democracy and cannot be the ones subverting it in any way.”
The ANC continues to face challenges in maintaining unity and addressing internal divisions as it prepares for upcoming elections.
