Stellenbosch FC have officially announced the return of striker Ashley Du Preez, who has joined the club on a permanent deal from Kaizer Chiefs.
The Idas Valley-born forward began his professional career with Stellenbosch in 2016 and made 98 appearances in all competitions over six years before joining Chiefs ahead of the 2022/23 season. The 29-year-old spent four seasons at Naturena, where he helped Amakhosi win the 2025 Nedbank Cup, ending the club’s long wait for silverware.
Speaking after completing his return, Du Preez said he had always believed he would one day come back to Stellenbosch. “I always knew that I would come back to Stellenbosch. It’s great to be back where I grew up and at the club where it all started for me. It is a huge honour and privilege to represent this club and community again,” he said.
Stellenbosch FC CEO Rob Benadie welcomed the striker back, saying the club was delighted to bring one of its own home. “Ashley has always shared a special relationship with this club and the Stellenbosch community. He has consistently proven his quality in the Betway Premiership, and we believe he will add enormous value to our squad both on and off the field,” said Benadie.
Du Preez has been handed the iconic No. 10 jersey and could make his second debut for Stellenbosch when they face Polokwane City in the Betway Premiership on 11 August.
Kaizer Chiefs also confirmed the transfer and thanked Du Preez for his commitment during his four-year stay at Naturena. “We extend our gratitude to Ashley for serving the club with diligence, dedication, and professionalism, and we wish him all the best in the next chapter of his career,” Chiefs said in a statement.
