Afrika Mayibuye Movement backs Mkhwanazi, calls for urgent action on alleged corruption

Afrika Mayibuye Movement has rejected what it describes as attempts to delegitimise Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, saying such efforts are being driven by individuals, fiefdoms and political parties with questionable associations and friendships with corrupt South African Police Service officials.Mayibuye spokesperson Sydney Baloyi said Mkhwanazi has demonstrated principle and resolve in his public stance against alleged criminal elements.

Baloyi stated: “General Mkhwanazi has demonstrated thus far that he is a man of principle, courage and consistency, adding that he “must never retreat in exposing the criminal elements in the SAPS and society as a whole.”

The movement said Mkhwanazi’s actions have already set in motion a process aimed at addressing alleged corruption within law enforcement and broader society.

”He has ignited a process which will and must rid South Africa of criminal elements in law enforcement circles,” said the movement.

It further maintained that no one has disproved the claims he made during his press conference on July 6, 2025.

According to Baloyi, during that press conference, Mkhwanazi revealed that “Politicians, law enforcement officials in the SAPS and metro police, correctional services personnel, prosecutors and members of the judiciary are being controlled by drug cartels and businesspeople.”The Afrika Mayibuye Movement said these issues must be addressed and attended to urgently through investigations and full accountability if the integrity of law enforcement and public trust in the criminal justice system are to be restored.

”Afrika Mayibuye Movement reaffirms its full and unwavering support for Lieutenant General Mkhwanazi,” said Baloyi.

”We encourage him to continue to boldly confront and expose all the agent provocateurs who are trying to divert his attention from this vital mission.”

The movement warned against what it described as coordinated efforts to intimidate or distract him, with Baloyi noting: “General Mkhwanazi must know that the tactics of public insults and humiliation and thereafter coordinated social media attacks is a weak mechanism that will be employed to scare him off the real issues on the table. He must never be distracted.”The movement called on members of the public to stand in solidarity with Mkhwanazi in confronting corruption.

“We call on the people of South Africa to rally behind General Mkhwanazi against criminal elements and their friends in Parliament and Government.”

He added that collective action is necessary, stating that “United action will defeat corruption and secure a safer future for our nation. We collectively must never allow South Africa to degenerate into a banana republic.”
