Tlhopie Motsepe: My biggest learning curve yet

Motsepe stepped into the role in 2021 after his father’s election as CAF president, inheriting one of the continent’s most successful clubs.

Reflecting candidly, the younger Motsepe describes the current campaign as his most educational yet since the transition.

“It has been educational and incredibly rewarding when you get to do things like this, and give young kids an opportunity to become closer to the game.

“There have definitely been some moments this season, where you’ve had to learn a lot more about yourself and the people around you. It’s been a wonderful opportunity to evolve, but it’s always about respecting the position and that’s what I’ve tried to do since the beginning.”

Motsepe added that being thrust into the limelight of responsibility was extremely daunting at the time.

“When I stepped into the role, I was 32 years old and the only thing I said to myself was don’t mess it up. That’s the message that I carry to this day, just to make sure that we don’t mess things up and we continually improve and respect the club as we found it in order to make it better.

“It’s been a very rewarding and revealing time in my life,” concluded the chairman.

His next big project, among several others, is to make a success out of the recent partnership between Sundowns and the Global Soccer Schools.
