Rain or shine Onke Sitwayi continues his coastal journey

Youth advocate and community builder, Onke Sitwayi has set off on a remarkable two-week journey that blends heritage, unity and hope on 14 September 2025. Sunday, Sitwayi officially began his annual coastal walk, departing from Mossel Bay in the Garden Route and heading to Dutywa in the where he is expected to arrive on 27 September, just after Heritage Day.

The walk forms part of the national ‘Wear Ubuntu’ campaign, brought to life by Dream Out Loud Africa in partnership with Brand South Africa. The campaign urges South Africans to embrace the spirit of ubuntu, social cohesion and collective action in building a stronger nation.

Sitwayi’s walk is more than a symbolic gesture. It doubles as a fundraising drive for the construction of the Dream Out Loud Centre in the Eastern Cape, a future hub that will equip young people with skills, mentorship and opportunities for innovation.

“Ubuntu is more than just a word, it is a way of life, through this walk, we are reminding South Africans that our diversity is our strength and that we can build a better future together, step by step,” said Sitwayi.

Furthmore, Brand South Africa Chief Executive Officer, Neville Matjie, highlighted the initiative as a true reflection of ubuntu and generosity saying the walk represents a collective journey that calls on every South African to uplift others and make meaningful contributions to their communities.

In addition Sitwayi said that, “This journey is about more than just walking, it is about raising funds to build an eco lab and inspiring communities along the way.”
