EAST LONDON- In a surprising turn of events, Siyanda Manana, the Director of Communications for the Eastern Cape Health Department, revealed that his Deputy Director Sizwe Kupelo
does not have a valid matric certificate.
This shocking news comes after an investigation sparked by a tip-off. The trial against Kupelo started on Wednesday at the East London Specialized Crimes Court.
He is accused of forging his matric certificate when he applied for his job back in 2002. Currently, he is out on bail set at R30,000.
Manana explained that he began looking into Kupelo’s qualifications after receiving information questioning the authenticity of his matric certificate.
“I handed the letter to the Department of Education. They sent it to Umalusi, and it came back saying the certificate did not belong to the accused. It was actually the certificate of Mr. Cinga Dantyi,” Manana stated.
When asked about Kupelo’s actual qualifications, the Department provided a statement showing his standard 10 results. The results included grades for Xhosa, English, Biology, and History, but did not include all subjects.
The court case continues, and many are watching closely to see how this situation unfolds.
