IDAC HEAD ANDREA JOHNSON A NO SHOW

Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) Advocate Andrea Johnson iwho was expected to appear before the Madlanga Commission on Monday pulled a no show after it emerged that she was rushed to hospital last night.

The Commission has recently heard evidence concerning the work of IDAC, with senior investigator Suneel Bellochun facing allegations that he extorted money from foreign shopkeepers.

Bellochun has not been found guilty of any offence, and the allegations remain under investigation.

Johnson is also expected to be questioned about allegations of misconduct and claims that she interfered in an assault case involving suspended Crime Intelligence deputy head Major-General Feroz Khan.

Those allegations have likewise not been determined by any court or tribunal.

The Commission has also heard evidence suggesting there may have been institutional tensions or a “turf war” between the South African Police Service (SAPS), IDAC and the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID), with evidence leaders examining whether those dynamics affected investigations into corruption and organised crime.

Johnson’s appearance was expected to provide further insight into the relationship between the various law enforcement agencies and their handling of high-profile investigations.

The allegations before the Commission remain subject to examination, and no findings have yet been made against those implicated.

The Commission was forced to postpone todays proceedings to tomorrow for a new witness to testify.
