Siza Dlamini and Lindile Nibe, whose relationship played out publicly on “The Ultimatum: South Africa”, have announced that they have ended their relationship.
In the statement, the pair explained that while they would have preferred to keep the matter private, they felt it was important to address it publicly because parts of their lives had already been shared on television.
“This is extremely difficult to express, but because the support you have given us was appreciated during and after the reality show, we felt it was important to let you know that after much reflection, we have decided to amicably separate,” the statement read.
Dlamini and Nibe added that they will always cherish the love and memories they shared during their time together, describing the breakup as a difficult but necessary step.
They first graced our TV screens during the first season of Netflix’s “The Ultimatum: South Africa”, where they gave drama, suspense and resilience.
Their decision comes after their relationship played out publicly on the Netflix reality series, where Nibe issued Dlamini with a marriage ultimatum just six months into their relationship. The reason behind the ultimatum was that Dlamini was not for the idea of marriage and children. The couple shared a joint statement confirming their breakup and asked for privacy as they navigate life beyond their very public relationship. On “The Ultimatum: South Africa”, couples arrive already in relationships, but with one issue that hinders them from moving forward.
One partner is ready for marriage, while the other is hesitant, leading to an ultimatum, which is to either commit or risk losing the relationship altogether.
As part of the experiment, the couples temporarily split, date other participants and enter short trial marriages with new partners before deciding whether to return to their original relationship, move forward alone, or choose someone new.
The process is designed to test their commitment, often pushing relationships to breaking point as emotions, doubts and new connections come into play.
Their journey on the show was marked by tense moments and honest conversations that divided viewers, but also drew strong support from fans who rooted for their relationship.Following the show, the pair announced that lobola negotiations had taken place, with Dlamini sharing pictures from the day, suggesting they were moving towards marriage. Those posts have since been removed from her social media.
In their breakup announcement, Dlamini and Nibe asked for privacy as they navigate this new chapter individually.
“We ask that you kindly respect and give us privacy as we continue to go through the process of healing, as this has all been very difficult for us,” they said. “We thank you all for the love and support to this point and hope that it may continue as we move forward.”
